Costa Rica Guanacaste May/June 2016
Fishing Guanacaste Costa Rica. Stayed at the Riu Guanacaste for 2 weeks. Great people and incredible scenery and wildlife. It wasn’t a fishing holiday but did of course manage to do a bit, mainly with the lures. Plenty of Jacks and other small fish on the beach on the Noeby shallow diving lures and one hit from a nice Roosterfish. Skipping the lures along the top or just under the surface on a quick retrieve worked best. Good fun on the light tackle for an hour in the mornings. Fished best over the early morning High tides. Where I fell...
Big Wrasse on Savage Gear Sandeels
There was a time when many thought bait was always going to be the most realistic way to catch big wrasse. Well, not anymore. Using a light set up and soft lures provides great sport with these hard fighting brutes. Big wrasse love savage gears! They are known to take live sandeels so it makes perfect sense. The best time to use these lures for wrasse is anytime there is tide running. Use as light a jig head as possible and increase the weight as the tide run strengthens to keep the lure bouncing along the bottom, with as slow...
1st March Report - Lure fishing Bass & Wrasse
Well after a successful start to the year bait fishing for bass I decided I would have a go with the lures. After a few bumps through the weed with the soft plastics I had the first bend in the rod with my first wrasse of the year in the 4lb8oz region. Nice start and got the blood pumping. Then 30mins went by without a bite, so I switched to the 23g real pearl savage gear sandeel. I started to slowly bump it through the weed beds when wallop, great scrap, first lure caught bass of the year, a chunky fish of 5lb. Same...
2 Double Figure Bass - Beach Fishing
Beach fishing in Jersey Feb 2016. Night 1 With big tides and a churned up sea I fancied my chances of a bass after catching a couple of 6lbers a couple of weeks ago. With a swell pumping in a southerly 5 and a ton of seaweed to contend with I was debating whether to fish or not. Well I went for it, I put the waders on, headed down the beach and opted for the K2 to give me best chance of keeping my line above the worst of the swell and weed. Fresh Verm or rockworm as it's called...
